Groundwork Flashcards
What is IFR take off minima
Stated in the Operational Data (ENR 1.5-45)
If not stated for you AD: 300ft AGL and 1500m vis
Heights in AGL (read straight from METAR/ATIS)
What is required for Reduced Take off minima
0ft ceiling, 800m vis
- centreline marking or centreline lights
- vis is confirmed by pilot by observation of centreline markings or lights
- runway is approved
- PIC takes into account obstacles in the flight path
- multi engine aircraft, auto coarse/auto feather
Instrument approach minima
AMSL (AGL)
MDA: non precision
DA: precision
Fuel required
45 mins at holding speeds 1,500ft above aerodrome
IFR alternate requirements
At the time of lodging the flight plan
AD has a standard instrument approach
- 1 hour either side of ETA:
Ceiling 1000ft above minima prescribed for approach to be used. Vis 5km or 2km more than prescribed whichever is greater
IFR alternate to be prescribed
AGL published in AIP ENR 1.5-45
At time of lodging the flight plan forecasts indicate that at ETA (at the alternate), ceiling and vis are at or above prescribed minima
AGL so can be read straight off TAF
Non prescribed alternate minima
At ETA at the alternate
Precision: 600 ft or 200ft above prescribed. Vis 3000m or 1000m above prescribed
Non-precision: 800ft or 200ft above prescribed. Vis 4000m of 1500m above prescribed
Alternate without an instrument approach: VFR minima
Alternate requirements using GPS as primary means
Nav aid other than GPS
Aircraft equipped to use other Nav aid
AD must have standby power for the continued operation of electronic Nav aid and AD lighting if night operations
Holds
Turns: no more than 25° AOB or rate one
Arc hold: parallel or direct entry only
1 min legs at 14,000ft or below
1.5 min legs above 14,000ft
SIDs
Climb gradient 3.3%
Maintain runway heading until 400ft
Average AOB 15°
Terminates when established on cleared route
Visual departure
Day only
Radar vectoring terminates
At or above MSA for the cleared route
Revisions to estimate
2 mins ETA
+/- 5% TAS
Radar vectoring for a visual approach
Day only
Ceiling at least 1,000ft above applicable radar vectoring altitude and vis 16km +
Night only at CH runway 11/29: vis 16km+ and no cloud below 5000ft
Vis approach request
Pilot has runway lights in sight
MAP
Turns at least 15° AOB
2.5% climb gradient
Descent below MDA/DA
- approach lighting system
- threshold markings
- threshold lights
- runway end identifying lights
- visual approach slope indicator
- touchdown zone or touchdown zone markings
- touchdown zone lights
- runway or runway markings
- runway lights
Lead radial
2nm either side of inbound
Speed restrictions
Speed restrictions will not be applied by radar controllers:
- aircraft on an instrument approach has passed a point 5nm from touchdown
- aircraft on a visual approach has passed a point 4nm from touchdown
Currency requirements
- demonstrate competency to a flight examiner within 12 months (60 days grace period)
- preceding 3 months: 3 hours Instrument time (2 in a sim)
- preceding 3 months: 3 instrument approaches (1 in a sim)
- prior to carrying out an instrument approach under IFR, in preceding 3 months, at least 1 instrument approach procedure using a similar type of Nav system (precision/non-precision)
RAIM warning
If during the enroute phase a RAIM warning has been displayed for more than 10 minutes or the GPS has operated in the DR mode for more than 1 minute:
- appropriate ATS unit must be advised
- aircraft position must be verified every 10 mins using another IFR approved Nav system
If RAIM warning is displayed you can’t commence an instrument approach
