grounding Flashcards
what is grounding
grounding an object involves removing excess charge by transferring electrons between the object and a large object such as earth
why can large objects gain or lose electrons and remain neutral?
the electrons spread out
what is the symbol that indicates that an object is grounded?
----- --- - yknow
when grounding a negatively charged object, do the electrons move away or towards the object?
away (towards the earth)
when grounding a positively charged object, do the electrons move away or towards the object?
towards (away from the earth
if a negative hand touches a neutral faucet, what happens?
the hand transfers its electrons into the faucet, and since the faucet it grounded the electrons continue moving and discharge into the earth.
this leaves both objects negative
