Q

How do the lumbricals cause extension of the interphalangeal joints?

A

the lumbricals join the expansion distal to interossei (flexors of the metacarpophalangeal joints) and affect the central and lateral bands to extend teh interphalangeal joints when the metacarpophalangeal joints are flexed
