Gross Lecture 2 Flashcards
What are the three muscles in the flexor compartment of the arm?
biceps brachii, brachialis, coracobrachialis
What nerve innervates the extensor compartment of the arm?
radial nerve
What is the primary action of the anterior compartment of the arm?
flexion
What are the three parts of the medial collateral ligament and where do they attach?
- anterior: from front of medial epicondyle of humerus to tubercle on medial margin of coronoid
- posterior: lower, back part of medial epicondyle to medial margin of the olecranon
- oblique: connects the distal attachments of the other two
What is the main artery found in the posterior compartment of the forearm?
posterior interosseous branch of the common interosseous artery
What nerve innervates the majority of the muscles in the anterior forearm?
musculocutaneous nerve
During a blood draw which vein is normally used for venipuncture?
median cubital vein
What is the action of the biceps brachii in pronation? Supination?
pronation: cannot flex the elbow in this position - the position that the radioulnar joint is kept in
supination: supinates the proximal radioulnar joint before it can flex the elbow
What is the pathway of each tendon of flexor digitorum profundus?
divides into 4 tendinous slips, 1 for each finger - pass deep to the flexor retinaculum (carpal tunnel) - passes through split in the superficialis tendon to insert onto the base of the distal phalanx
What does the nerve to the lateral forearm originate?
radial nerve - posterior cord of brachial plexus
