"Gross Anatomy Female Reproductive Miriam L. Donohue" 3/27 Flashcards
Name 3 structures that open into the vestibule of the vagina.
Vagina
Urethra
ducts of the greater vestibular glands
Name 4 structures contained within the broad ligament.
Uterus Uterine tubes Round ligament Ligament of the ovary Ovarian vessels and nerves
The ovaries are located in the ___ aspect of the broad ligament.
Mesosalpinx
List the contents of the suspensory ligament of the ovary.
Ovarian vessels and nerves
The suspensory ligament holds the ovaries in place.
Name the 4 divisions of the uterine tube and list a distinguishing feature of each.
Infundibulum, by the fimbriae
The labia majora are homologous to the _____ in the male.
scrotal sac
What is the blood supply to the labia majora?
Branches of external and internal pudendal artery
What is the nerve supply to the labia majora?
Ilioinguinal (anterior labial)
Pudendal (posterior labial)
The lower third of the uterus is called:
Cervix
Where do the uterine and ovarian arteries anastomose?
The ovarian artery is a branch off of AA. OA travels to the ovary within the suspensory ligament. As it crosses the pelvic brim, it lies close to the ureter and anastomoses with terminal branches of the uterine artery.
OA supplies the uterine fundus, uterine tube and the ovary.
What is the role of the pelvic splanchnic nerves found in the uterovaginal plexus?
- Part of female orgasm
- Inhibit muscle contraction
- promote secretions from vestibular bulbs
