Greenhouse Gases and Climate Change Flashcards
What are some examples of greenhouse gases?
Carbon Dioxide, Methane, Water Vapour
How do greenhouse gases work?
they don’t absorb incoming short wavelength radiation from the sun. But they do absorb the long wavelength that gets reflected back from the earth.
What are four examples of human activity that affect the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere?
- Deforestation
- Argiculture
- Creating Waste
- Burning Fossil Fuels
How does deforestation affect global warming?
fewer trees means less CO2 is removed from the atmosphere via photosynthesis
How does burning fossil fuels affect global warming?
carbon that was locked up in the fuels is released as CO2
How does Argiculture affect global warming?
Farm animals produce methane which is released through their digestive systems
How does creating waste affect global warming?
more waste from argiculture means more CO2 and Methane is released by decomposition of waste
What are three dangerous consequences that are a result of climate change?
- change in rainfall patterns
- Increased global temperature
- Higher frequency of severe storms
