Greenberg Background Flashcards
Education
She “had a fine Jewish education, the best a girl could have. This meant she was exposed to all Jewish learning, with the exception of Talmud studies
Studied at Brooklyn College and received a bachelor in political science –> this is when she started questioning the patriarchal nature of her faith
Realisation
Wanted to further her bible studies but she soon realised “that it wasn’t the sort of thing a nice orthodox Jewish girl would do”
Other incidents began accumulating in her mind e.g. her uncle died and only the males were able to accompany the casket out of the synagogue, when her grandad gave her sons a reward for special parts they had done in the service the daughter exclaimed that it was unfair
Marriage
Married an orthodox rabbi who was known for his liberal outlook and innovative Jewish social activity
