Define Texture
Often melody and accompaniment within Greek music
Define tonic
The first and last note on a major or minor scale
Define Ornamentation
Notes which are added to the main notes of a piece of music in order to make it more interesting, e.g. trills, slides, melismas etc.
Virtuoso/ Virtuosic
The performance ability of the musician, whos playing skill is well above other musicians
Define Slides/ Glissandos
When you slide from one pitch to the next but there may be other notes in between
Define Syncopation
When the weak beats in a bar are stressed instead of the strong ones
Define Articulation
How a single or multiple notes are played and expressed when performed or sung
Define Tonality
Where a key may be major (upbeat/ joyus/ uplifting) or minor (sad/ reflective/ sombre)
Define Dynamics & Balance
How loud and quiet the music is or where the sound sits as you listen
Define bouzouki
A stringed instrument that has three or four pairs of strings.

It is often used as the melody instrument, and plays distinctive slides and tremolos in 3rds (3 notes apart)

A toubeleki, is a traditional Greek drum used similar to the doumbek in the Middle East.

The defi is one of the main percussion instruments used in Greek folk music.
What is an Aulos?
An Aulos is a double reed instrument which is similar sounding to an oboe.

A violin

The kithara is part of the lute family as is where the word guitar originates from.
