Despite opulent displays of wealth, the city, the suburbs and the Valley of Ashes all share
a sense of spiritual desolation and psychological desperation.
East Egg

Buchanan’s
ostentatious waterfront estate resembles Gatsby’s.
The mansions had trappings of
Old world aristocracy.
Georgian colonial architecture
hearkens back to Colonial America.
