Gravimetric Analysis and Gases Flashcards
mole ratio
unknown / known ——> known : known
Limiting Reagent
The reagent which runs out first in a chemical reaction. This should be used for all stoichiometric calculations
Excess Reagent
A reagent which is left over after a reaction goes to completion
Gravimetric Analysis
A technique that uses change of mass to determine the amount or identity of a given substance
Precipitate
A solid formed in a chemical reaction between two dissolved substances or gases
Residue
The solid remaining in the filter paper after filtration
Filtrate
The liquid that passes through the filter paper during filtration, consisting of solvent plus any dissolved solute
Standard Laboratory Conditions (SLC)
The conditions assumed to be in place during laboratory experiments. These are defined as a temperature of 25oC and a pressure of 100 kPa
General Gas equation
PV= nRT
P : pressure (kPa) V : volume (L) n : moles R : 8.31 J K-1 mol-1 T : temperature in K (C + 273)
