GRAVETTER_CH02_FREQ DIST & FREQ DIST TABLELS Flashcards
This is an organized tabulation of the number of individuals located in each category on the scale of measurement.
A frequency distribution.
TRUE OR FALSE: A frequency distribution can be structured either as a table or a graph.
TRUE.
THINK! How can you find the total number of individuals in a study using the frequency distribution table
Add up all the frequencies (f) to get N.
THINK! What are the two components of a frequency distribution table?
The frequency and the score.
Measures the fraction of the total group that is associated with each score.
Proportion. (p)
ex. if 2 out of 10 people had a score (X) of 4, then the proportion would be 2/10 = 0.20
THINK! Why are proportions also called relative frequencies?
Because they describe the frequency (f) in relation to the total number (N).
How do you get a percentage from a proportion?
Multiply the proportion by 100.
% = p(100)
