Q

Meaning of suffix

Οτητα

A

ότητα which usually signifies the property of what the base word denotes. For example the feminine noun λειτουργικότητα (“functionality”) comes from the verb λειτουργώ (“to function”), while the feminine noun αθωότητα (“innocence”) derives from the masculine adjective αθώος (“innocent”). We can see from these examples that the suffix - ότητα can be added to all kinds of base words. The derivatives with this ending are always feminine.
