Verb Phrase
Main verb and at least 1 helping verb
Helping Verb (aka auxiliary verb)
helps the main verb express action or state of being
Example of helping and main verb:
- When did the Galazra family move to Sacremento?
- Many people have been enjoying his works.

Action Verb
verb that expresses either physical or mental activity
Linking Verb
connects the subject to a word or word group that identifies or describes the subject
Example of linking verb and the subject:
Markham became the first woman to fly nonstop from England to America.

Transitive Verb
verb that expresses an action directed toward a person place or thing

words that receive the action of transitive verbs
Intransitive Verbs
expresses action without the action passing to a receiver
Example of transitive and intransitive:

Adverb
word that modifies a verb, adjective or another adverb
tells where, when, how, or what extent (how much or how long)
Adverb examples:
