Past: Used to refer to what has already happened. Uses words like “walked, had, wanted, couldn’t”. Typically affixes using “ed”

Present: Used to refer to what is currently happening. Uses words like “eat, doesn’t, is”. Sometimes affixes words using “n’t or ing”

Future: Used to refer to what will happen. Prominently uses words “will, going, is going”. Can affix using “ing”.

What are irregular verbs?

A

Irregular verbs are verbs that exist outside of the present standards, changing both the spelling and the vowel sound without adding an s to the end. In other cases, the word just doesn’t change no matter the context.

Helping verbs are just inflected verisons of the verbs “to have” and “to be”. They are used to help other verbs function.

Past: “Brian was eating a slice of pizza”
“was” is a helping verb that helps the verb “eating”

Present: “Brian is eating pizza”
“is” is a helping verb that helps the verb “eating”

Future: “Brian had been eating pizza”
“had” and “been” are helping verbs that helps the verb eating.

Linking verbs are verbs that are utilized to link ideas. For example, all these verbs include forms of the verb “to be”, and are used in place of it to express idea.s

A

Think of linking verbs as “state of being words” that link a word to a subject. Think of helping verbs as “action verbs” which describe a behavior of decision.
