derivation
in generative grammar, the set of stages that link the abstract underlying structure of an expression to its surface form. aka, the specific development of a word based off context.
formal
Formal grammar in writing is a style of language that is used for academic or professional purposes. It is characterized by a more serious tone, complex sentence structures, and a lack of colloquialisms.
informal / Colloquial
a word or phrase that is not formal or literary, typically one used in ordinary or familiar conversation.
concrete
Something that can be perceived by the five senses, such as sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing
abstract
Something that is not a material object or is general and not based on specific examples
common
“Common” can be used as an adjective to describe something that is shared by multiple people or things, or that is seen or happens often:
proper
the use of accepted rules for sentence structure, punctuation, and spelling in written or spoken language
syllable
a word that refers to the unit of pronunciation a word has. i.e “one” has one syllable. “something” has two syllables (some-thing)
adjective
a word that modifies or describes a noun or pronoun.
noun
refers to a person, place, thing, action, or idea.
verb
a word that describes what the subject of a sentence is doing.
