How to make questions?
What tenses do we use in future?
We have 7 tenses to express future but we’ve but we have only seen for so far.
The 1st one is a future simple.
Be going, to present continuous, continuous and present simple.
Future simple
S + aux will + v in infinitive + c
1- predictions of the future
His parents think he will become a doctor when he grows up.
2) spot on decisions
I’ll take this jacket instead of the trousers .
3) events we can’t control
I will become 30 in 2 years.
4) promises or hopes
I hope it will rain soon to end the ongoing Drought.
When do we use shall
To make an offer
Shall I help you with your homework?
To make a suggestion
Shall we dance?
To ask for advice
Shall i enroll in university this summer?
Be going to
S + verb to be + going to + verb in infinitive
Uses : 2
- for plans that are 100% sure to happen.
I’m going to clean up my room because it’s a mess
2) predictions with evidence
Look at him, he’s gonna win the race
Present continuous
S + verb to be + verb ing
And it’s used for fixed arrangements
He’s leaving in one hour for Amsterdam
Present simple
S + be + v in infinitive
Used for programmes or time tables used in busses trains etc.
The movie starts in 10 minutes.
Present perfect:
S + have has + verb in past participle
Action that started in the past and continues up until now with stative verbs such as have like or be
She has been absent for 2 weeks now
Action that started in the past and recently has finished:
She has finished her homework.
Actions that have finished but we don’t know when they happened.
He has broken his arm.
Present perfect continuous
S + aux has or have + been + verb ing
Action that started in the past and still continues up until the present.
I have been doing my homework for 2 hours .
Past perfect s
Expresses a past within the past, that is an action that has happened before a past simple
I had cleaned the house before the kids came wearing dirty shoes.
Short answers
To avoid the overusing of words by giving a complete answer we use this device.
We answer with the same verb and only using pronouns as subject.
Are you fond of classical music? Yes I am.
We can use short answers to express many things such as. Agreement you’re right. She won’t.
Disagreement. You’re wrong she will.
Doubt she does?
And surprise so he did
