Q

Where does Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae enter?

(Gram Positive Rods)

A
  • Enters through abrasions and wounds
  • Localized skin infection = erysipeloid*
  • Local swelling and redness of skin
  • Does not suppurate (no pus)
  • Differentiates it from Strep erysipelas
  • Self limited, but can treat with antibiotics
