Necrotizing fasciitis, scarlet fever, strep throat, impetigo, glomerulonephritis
S. Pneumoniae
Hemolytic, lives in mouth and throat, kills IgA. 60-70% of pneumonia, otitis media, bacteremia, meningitis, sinusitis, endocarditis
Viridans strep
S. Mutants group of alpha- hemolytic bacteria, mouth, pharynx, GI, genitals.
Dental caries, dental plaque, meningitis, myocarditis
Bacillus anthracis
Animal pathogen spores.
Cutaneous, Escher lesions
Staph aureus
Fibrin sac, hemolytic, few hundred cause disease.
Food poisoning, colitis, furuncle, carbuncle,scalded skin syndrome
Clostridium perfringens
Soil, water, animal GI. Food poisoning, gas gangrene, myonecrosis
C. Dificile
Opportunistic with anti microbial drugs. Pseudo membranous colitis
C. Botulinum
Botulism. Most potent toxin. Food borne illness (honey)Paralysis.
C. Tetanii
Anaerobic wounds, tetanus of muscle, cannot relax
L. Monocytogeness
Soil and water. Grows in refrigerator conditions, contaminated meat.
Listeria poisoning, fever, muscle aches, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions.
C. Diphtheria
On plants, in animals. Diphtheria, respiratory droplets spread disease, cause sore throat and fever -> grey or white patches in throat which can swell and block airway, barking cough.
