grade 5 theory Flashcards

Q

third rear position

A

-when placed on the toe, the hollow of the working foot touches the heel of the supporting foot
- working foot should be turned outwards at an angle of 90 degrees from the line of direction
when on the balls of both feet, the sole of front foot is over the instep of the rear foot, both turned out not less than 45degrees from the LOD.

Q

third crossed position

A
  • the working leg is crossed in front of the supporting leg with the 1/2 point of the working foot placed near the outside edge of the instep of the supporting foot.
-the working foot may also be placed on the ball in 3rd crossed
    examples:
1/2 point- pivot turns in S.t
ball- cross over with extension fling 6th step-1st alt method.

Q

shake-shake down

A
  • hop executing a shake action with the working foot in 4th intermediate aerial, hop carrying the same foot slightly backwards to execute another shake action with that foot in 2nd aerial position.
  • spring to displace the supporting foot. which if required, may be sharply extended to any open aerial position to start the next movement or execute an assemble, prior to a quick step or leap OR
  • both shake actions may be executed in 2nd aerial position.
  • counting 3 & 4 or 7 & 8

Q

step

A
  • a transfer of weight from one foot to the ball of the other foot, with or without travel
-the heel may be lowered to finish on a flat foot as well
    examples:
step on ball- 2nd step of S.T, travelling balance
step on flat foot- intro of sword or S.T

Q

pivot turn

A
  • turning to the left-take the RF to 3rd crossed position on 1/2 point, pivot to the left on the balls of both feet without displacing them finishing in 3rd or 5th position with the LF in front.
  • turning to the right- as above but start with LF in 3rd crossed and finish with RF in front
  • counting: 1 2

the pivovt turn may start either:

  1. prior to placing the working foot in 3rd crossed, the working foot may be extended to 4th intermediate aerial, OR
  2. prior to placing the working foot in 3rd crossed, a small step backwards to 4th intermediate rear position. in this case there is no extension to 4th intermediate aerial position prior.

Q

change

A

-a movement of elevation begun with the weight of the body on the balls equally distributed in 3rd or 5th and finish by landing at the same time on the balls of both feet with the other in front.
examples: highland reel ending (assemble, change).

Q

leap

A
  • a movement of elevation begun from the balls of both feet in 3rd or 5th position

A
  • extend RF to 2nd aerial position low
  • strike the heel of the RF against the heel of the LF then sharply re extend the RF towards 2nd aerial position low.
  • during the movement, the LF travels to the side with very little elevation.
  • then finally, strike the heel of the RF against heel of LF and at the same time spring onto RF finishing with LF extended sharply to 2nd aerial low.

Q

A

-the feet are in contact with each other, or the working foot is touching the supporting leg

bar 3: bow (1 2 3 4)
bar 4: pivot 1/8 turn to left on the ball of the LF, releasing the heel of the RF (5), point RF in 4th position (6), pause (7), and rise on the ball of the LF taking RF to 3rd aerial position (8).
OR
bar 4: pause (5 6 7), then rise on the ball of the LF making 1/8 turn to the left, taking RF to 3rd aerial position and taking the arms to 3rd position (8).

-on all intros, you may stand as for bow and bow with the arms by the side and the arms would come to 1st the first count following the bow
