Q

disassemble

A
  • movement of elevation begun in a closed position, with the weight of the body equally over the balls of both feet and finished by landing on the ball of one foot with the other foot placed in or raised to a specific position.
  • no travel unless required in step
  • during the elevation, there is no extension of the foot which the dancer is going to land on
ex. start the 1st step of fling, into first highcut-1sts step of sword

Q

outwards brush

A
  • working foot brushes the ground lightly uses the 1/2 point
  • it either can brush from 3rd aerial position very low, through 3rd to an open aerial position, or from a rear position through 1st to 4th aerial position.
  • from a spring or a hop, working foot touches the ground almost the same time as landing on the supporting foot

Q

shuffles

A

-start with working foot in mid-4th aerial position low, spring or hop taking the original supporting foot to mid-4th position low.
-at the same time as you land, brush (inwards) that new working foot into 3rd or 5th position on 1/2 point, then immediately re-extend it to mid 4th aerial position low
-the inwards brush is finished with losing contact with the ground and instep slightly relaxed to bring the heel over the instep of the supporting foot or “over the buckle”
-no travel but in some cases there is slight backwards travel
- shuffles may be started from position other than mid 4th position low.
counting- S.T= imperfect rhythm (1& 2& 3& 4&)
Reel= half beat rhythm (1 & 2 & 3 & 4)

-quickly execute an inward brush to 3rd aerial position low
-place working foot on 1/2 point in 3rd or 5th position, then lightly beat the rear foot in 3rd rear.
-after beating the rear on count 2, the working foot may be extended to 4th intermediate aerial or 2nd aerial positions, depending on starting position for the next movement
- the inward brush may be executed directly to 3rd aerial low or may pass through 3rd or 5th position to 3 aerial position low,
counting- 1 && a 2

Q

raising and lowering of the arms

A
  • when an arm is raised or lowered, there should be minimal movement of the elbow and no part of the arm or hand should come in front of the dancers face
  • the exception to this is bar 4 of the intro of the S.T where the arms come up in front of the face from 5th to 4th position and in the 1st and 2nd steps of the S.T when the arms are circled from 1st or 5th positions

Q

Placing the foot on the ball

A
  • when the pads of the toes and ball are in contact with the ground with the insteps arched
  • knee of the working leg is kept straight as possible but without strain to allow freedom of movement
  • when the working foot is on the ball, the weight of the body can transfer onto it so the dancer can take a step of travel.

Q

intro. to S.T

A
  • bars 1 and 2 stand as for bow (1-8)
  • bar 3 bow (1,2,3,4)
  • bar 4: taking arms to 1st if not already placed, step LF towards 2nd position (5)
-making a 1/8 turn to the right step RF to 4th rear flat to finish with the LF pointed to 4th position (6)
  • take arms from 5th to 4th in front of the body (7)
  • carry arms out to 3rd and rise on the ball of RF (8)
    alternative
  • bars 1-3 are the same
bar 4- pivot turn 1/8 on the ball of the LF keeping heel off the floor (5)
  • step RF in 4th rear flat to finish with LF pointed to 4th (6)
  • count 7 and 8 are the same as method one, same with the arms
