Positional Control - High Swim (3.4)
Lift one shoulder and make the other heavy on their hand. Swim light arm and shoulder down to just above their shoulder on the ground. Follow with swim of the other arm.

Opponent turns sideways underneath you but does not roll to their knees
Armbar - Side (9.3)
Modified mount. Pull arm with hand on head until shoulder locks out. Walk foot under armpit. [Armbar] Move head to keep balance as you swing leg around into armbar. Spin their wrist south.

Opponent, standing, grabs your foot throwing it aside
Punch Block - Stage 5 Rollover (27.2)
Keeping knees separate bring opposite leg over the leg they are holding by lowering the knee of the leg they are holding to the ground. Place foot on their hip. Replace foot with other foot and straighten body into stage 4 position.

Opponent passes guard and lowers upper body down to side mount
Shrimp Escape - Block and Shoot (24.1)
Stay on your side (not your back). Extend arms with slight bend to block and slow them as they enter into side control. Use your arms to pull your hips into them bringing your close knee between you and their hips stopping only when the top of your foot stops on the side of their hip and your other foot across their back. Square your body up with them by pushing your knee against their hips. Shift weight to other hip and put foot down between their legs. Shrimp body away while keeping your foot planted to get your foot out and into guard.

Elbow Escape - Fish Hook (12.3)
Turn on side. Elbow or hand to their knee. Push their leg wide with your knee. Hook toes under their ankle. Lift [Standard Elbow Escape] Your knee under. Trap their leg from inside with other leg. Head control with that hand. Turn over on other hip. Bite back with top leg. Elbow escape other leg. Swap hips again. Pull leg out to guard.

Opponent establishes headlock with head up and scissor choke fails
Headlock Escape 1 - Scissor Failure (18.2)
Roll up onto elbow of the bottom arm controlling their arm. Grap opposite shoulder with other arm. As soon as you let their head go with your legs, swing them around behind you placing your chest on their chest and all of your weight on your chest and toes only. Side control.

Punch Block - Stage 1 (8.1)
Palms on head block punches. Use legs to distrupt their punches and move their body so you can grab it. Head control and trapped arm

Haymaker Punch Defense (30.1)
Punch side palm on your head to block punch. Duck and enter in placing the other hand to the front of their hip. Keep facing straight in and duck under their arm. Move your hip forward and head back and up pushing into the back of their shoulder. Put your ear in the center of their back. Grab your hand in s-grip. Hips out. Pinch their hips between shoulder and hands.

Opponent successfully defends standing guillotine choke
Guillotine - Pull Guard (23.3)
If you are pushed to ground or decide to pull guard make sure your legs are wide and you push your legs backward so they fall into your guard.

Positional Control - Guard Prevention (13.2)
As the knee comes in, grab the back of their bicep and lift allowing room to bring that leg under their shoulder (called kesa).

Double Leg Takedown (Conservative) (17.3)
Keep 2 arm length distance until you decide to move in. Throw palm strike into face to enter the clinch. Move in, with back straight and eyes facing forward, putting your foot between their feet. Place shoulder on their stomach and palms on back of calves right under their knees. Push into them with shoulder and pull their knees inward falling down to one knee and pushing them on their back. Tripod up on your shoulder and feet with extended legs using your hand flat on the ground to block beside their hip. The other hand collapses their knee so you can walk around and clear their knee. Slide up into side control.

Opponent is aggressive, commits to attacking you with strikes, and you wish to control them while standing
Clinch (Aggressive) (7.1)
Palms on forehead, duck punch, enter until your arms run into their chest. Front leg in and on the outside of their leg. Front leg arm around the back like a bar, grab wrist with monkey grip at hip. Ear in center of chest pushing up into their chin. Your hip touches their hip. Press head over and draw arm in. Take small steps in for easier control.

Opponent has you in a side headlock
Standing Headlock Defense (26.1)
Grab far hip with hand around their back. Place setup step foot with heel toward their toes. Step other foot between their feet blocking far knee with your other hand. Keep setup step leg straight and squat other leg pulling them in a twisting motion over your straightened leg. Keep momentum as you fall, bring in elbow so it doesn’t get pinned under their body, and swing your leg over their body into modified mount. Place forearm on their neck and grab wrist with other hand pressing on their neck until you can break their headlock grip.

Take the Back - Head & Arm Control (31.1)
Push arm over and gable grip on the other side of their neck for head and arm control. Keep control. Shift hips under them. Kick bottom leg out to collapse their knee and get to half guard. Shoulder get-up. Ankles together between their legs. Get your head lower than theirs and seatbelt.

Americana Armlock - Neck-Hug (2.3)
Pin exposed hand far away from their body. Mess with their timing and feed it to other hand. Figure 4. Loop head. High extend opposite leg.

Punch Block - Stage 3 (8.3)
Hold their neck, resist and time release for rubber band back. Double shin guard, hips off ground, with feet on hips. Palms on head to block punches. Point toes off hips to get back to stage 1 protecting head from their head with back of your hand on the opposite side of your face.

Triangle Choke - Giant Killer (10.3)
High guard squeeze. Extend legs. Stuff head with both hands. Drop inside hip to get foot on their hip. Extend. Hold their arm. Other foot on hip like stage 4. Keep arm control side leg extended. Knee yourself in you own shoulder with other leg into triangle setup, blocking punches. [Triangle] Raise hips, move arm over, lower hips. Grab shin beside head controlling head. Shoulder walk and push off hip with foot to align leg vertically. Cross legs. Add hands to head.

Opponent is under control and you want to transition
Positional Control - Mount Transition (13.3)
Spider walk the fingers of your underhook arm up toward their head moving their arm north and preventing their hand from being able to touch your knee when it comes across. Drive south knee across body. South arm under their arm and bases out. Windshield wipe your foot quickly out to the floor avoiding quarter guard.

Opponent pushes off body to stand up to throw punches
Punch Block - Stage 4 (8.4)
Hold their neck, resist and time release for rubber band back. Feet on hips, legs outstretched, and hips on ground. Palms on head to block punches. Lower them down and, once they are low, point toes off hips to get back to stage 1 protecting head from their head with back of your hand on the opposite side of your face.

Punch Block - Stage 2 (8.2)
Control head first. Block with forearm of other arm. Bring in knee and place their arm on shin with monkey grip on bicep. Kick legs out straight to get back to stage 1 protecting head from their head with back of your hand on the opposite side of your face.

Elbow Escape - Hook Removal (12.2)
Kick leg straight to remove one hook. Use free foot to pin their other hook to ground. Put you leg on top of your own foot. Remove your foot allowing your leg to lie flat on floor. [Standard Elbow Escape] Turn on side. Elbow or hand to their knee. Your knee under. Trap their leg from inside with other leg. Head control with that hand. Turn over on other hip. Bite back with top leg. Elbow escape other leg. Swap hips again. Pull leg out to guard.

Headlock Counters - Prevent Get-Up (16.2)
Keep arms based out and don’t allow your head to get pulled too far down. Pull them back down with your vertical leg.

Shrimp Escape - Shrimp and Shoot (24.2)
Control head. Arm frame on their hip. Small shrimp back just enough to shoot knee in. Establish guard.

Positional Control - Low Swim (3.3)
Post your hand at 45 deg angle. Keep weight in your arm. Swim when they least expect it, i.e. mess with their timing, stay inconsistent.

Opponent attempts to tackle you
Guillotine - Standard (23.2)
Put hands out on their shoulders and move your feet back to absorb some of their movement in. Drop one hand for a forearm on their shoulder and this arm will lead their head under your arm. Wrap their neck. Grab your wrist with monkey grip. Bring your choking side hip in to choke them with your arm on one side and ribs on the other by lowering your weight and rotating your torso over the back of their neck.

Opponent rolls to knees without headlock
Headlock Counters - Back Mount (16.3)
As they roll to their front, windshield wiper your rear leg parallel to their spine. This allows you to slip for foot under their hip as soon as it leaves the ground. Keep your weight off them and walk back as they go to knees. Get your head lower than theirs and seatbelt.

Opponent attempts transition to full mount driving knee across torso
Elbow Escape - Knee Drive (33.1)
When their weight transitions to the knee they drove across, elbow on the non driving knee. [Standard Elbow Escape] Your knee under. Trap their leg from inside with other leg. Head control with that hand. Turn over on other hip. Bite back with top leg. Elbow escape other leg. Swap hips again. Pull leg out to guard.
