When you find yourself inside the closed guard, there is no major hurry to pass. Whenever possible, achieve posture and use distraction strikes to force the guard to open at which point you can either stand up and disengage or use the Double Underhook Pass to achieve the side mount. Also, once you achieve the side mount, you should anticipate their attempt to reestablish the guard and position yourself accordingly.

Indicator: Opponent attempts to tackle you or dive in for your duty belt.ED: Block the shoulders and continue sprawling until the full wrap is established.MCM: Trying to apply pressure from a sprawled position instead of standing up.BGR: When simulating the tackle, continue driving forward until the wrap is fully established.DO: Start standing, neutralize tackle, 1 rep, reverse roles.Note: When applying this technique always be cognizant of the condition of the opponent. As explained in Lesson 6, it is important to be able to recognize when they are unconscious so that you can immediately transition to aftercare procedures. To avoid unnecessary exposure to injury, do not continue to apply this restraint after you are aware that they have completely passed out. Always adhere to your agency’s UOF policy as well as its aftercare procedures.

Of all the techniques that have been used by students around the world by Gracie Jiu-Jitsu students, the Front Headlock Neck Restraint is one of the most common, probably because it is so easy to catch on an unsuspecting opponent. Focus on perfecting your ability to establish the initial wrap very quickly and tightly, and be sure to give the technique enough time to take effect.

147
Q

Step 2

A

Now with hand on forearm in monkey grip fashion, drop that elbow into shoulder, which puts pressure on suspects arm to come further out, then grab forearm with your other hand and pull until hand comes out.

148
Q

Why not always do the close quarters variation?

A

the first one is more stable because you have your body out further from his body, the CQV your more upright, which means more off balance.

153
Q

Mindset Minute

A

In over 85 years of real fighting experience, no technique has been more effective at controlling aggressive subjects than the Twisting Arm Control. To maximize your options, perfect all variations.

154
Q

Easiest way to roll someone to their stomachMount VariationStep 1

A

Your top mount, left arm pushes on right bicep, while your right arm pulls their right forearm down to ground, which is on the left side of their face. Also use your chest, pushing your chest down on their tricep to assist their arm down

155
Q

Step 2

A

Your left arm then goes behind their neck while your right hand, which has a hold of their right forearm, feeds their right arm to your left hand. Then use your right arm to go underneath their left arm and have it go above their head, so they dont reach for their waste. You can hold them in this position.

156
Q

Step 3

A

When you feel good about getting them to their belly, go to modified mount, which is lift your right leg to a 90 degree angle to foot on ground.

157
Q

Step 4

A

Then press your chest against their back, driving them to roll over, along with your right hand on the tricep of the right arm thats trapped behind their head, then roll them over.

158
Q

step 5

A

Now switch knees, with right knee now down on ground and left knee now at 90 degree angle with foot on floor. Maintain hands in same places

159
Q

Step 6

A

Now roll them over, so they are now laying on their right side instead of their left side. Their right forearm now is pointed in the air. Your right leg will be on your right knee on the ground on the right side of their body, with your left leg posted on your foot on the left side of the body.

160
Q

Step 7

A

Now reach up with your right hand and grab a hold of the outside of their right wrist (side of wrist) with monkey grip, placing your right elbow on the ground. It will make a triangle contact around their neck, with their forearm being one side, followed by your forearm being the other, and then the ground being the third.

161
Q

Step 8

A

If he attempts to post other hand on ground (that is placing hand on ground to push up), then reach through, slap palm to top of his hand, move your forearm forward, thereby throwing his arm forward, then wrap fingers on wrist and pull his arm behind back.

162
Q

Step 9

A

If he doesnt post, and is hiding his other hand underneath body, then while right hand is holding onto forearm, use your left hand and place on top of his right hand, applying pressure, called the goose neck. Applying this pressure, say give me your other hand

163
Q

Step 10

A

Once he places his hand into his lower back after you told him to do it., let go of his wrist with your right hand, still maintaining pressure downward with your other hand for the goose neck. Then reach with your right hand to the opposite arm on his back, and reach underneath deeply at his bicep, dropping your hand all the way to his hand on the lower back.

164
Q

Step 11

A

now let go of goose neck

165
Q

Step 12

A

switch knees, chalking the elbow of hand in lower back with your left knee, with your right leg posted on ground at 90 degree angle on opposite side of body.

166
Q

Step 13

A

Now take both of your hands and place them underneath his wrist, which is on his lower back. Hand over hand and start pulling northward towards head, telling him to bring his other arm back and place on his lower back for handcuffing.

167
Q

Initially, how do you get their arm to go around their neck for the beginning part of the move.

A

Open hand strikes, etc, then right hand on forearm left hand on tricep, push arm in the direction of across the body on the other side of the neck and immediately bring your chest down on their tricep when far enough over to expediate the process

168
Q

why keep their hand above their head when rolling them over

A

as you roll over their hand will cross their waste, to avoid that keep their hand above head while rotating them

169
Q

In the beginning part of the move, what is another option to get wrist grabbed by your arm around his neck.

A

What you can do is, pin their other arm (not the arm you really want for this move) to the ground. They might panic and try to grab onto their own arm with their other arm to keep you from say doing an Americana armlock, quickly move and grab the wrist you want with your arm thats already hugging their neck

170
Q

be careful

A

when your chest is on his shoulder rotating, causes an unformfortable impingement

171
Q

another tip

A

When you initially rotate the person and you hit the roadblock on their elbow, you you body weight to pull them further over before goosenecking the wrist

172
Q

Twisting Arm Control is…

A

the best way to get the suspect to roll over

173
Q

If after hitting the roadblock and you roll him over and start the gooseneck and he continues to roll, what are your options

A

When you get him over, if your able to get the other hand quickly and place in lower back, then he wont roll, but you must be quick. You can go into straight arm lock, by grabbing his left arm and controlling him that way until you gain the compliance you need to handcuff.

174
Q

Remember

A

the likelihood is the suspect doesnt want to go back to their back, but go to their belly so they can post and get up in order to get away.

175
Q

Side Mount Variation| Step 1

A

Side mount control, with you being chest to chest on suspect, with your right hand underneath his left shoulder, and your left arm around his neck

176
Q

Step 2

A

Now take your left arm and bring it underneath his right arm, with your left leg posted out for control and your right leg straight

177
Q

Step 3

A

Walk your left hand up on the ground, which will force his right arm up as well, make sure its not close to his shoulder but a little further out, so you have more leverage.

178
Q

Step 4

A

Now use your left shoulder and left arm, which is up against his right arm, and throw your shoulder to force his arm across his body. If for some reason you cant force his arm across his body, reach up and grab his head and hold there, pinning his arm between his head and your arm. When that arm relaxes, then use your shoulder to check it across.Another issue, is if when you get your left arm underneath his, he might take his right arm, put around your neck and grab his other hand, therefore putting you in a headlock. He can get a blood choke this way, so dont pull away your head, which gives him that ability. Tuck chin, put chin to chest, reach in with your right hand and pin his left arm to ground, breaking his grip and then feeding his right hand back to your right hand.

179
Q

Step 5

A

Now once his hand comes across, use your right hand to slap his right arm across, then grab his right wrist with your left hand (C- Grip), which is hugging his neck

180
Q

Step 6

A

Now go to your knees, with your chest to his chest, and knees up against the body

181
Q

Step 7

A

Now cup his left tricep with your right hand, while maintaining control with your lefthand on his right wrist around his neck

182
Q

Step 8

A

Make sure that left arm which is being pinned by your right hand on his left tricep is tight againt his body and yours. Keep your head down, so he cant take that left arm can get underneath your chin.

183
Q

Step 9

A

If he attempts to roll away, stay on your knees because your weight is back. If you flatten out thinking that might help, it will only help him, because you weight shifts forward, which might cause him to flip you over him.And if he attempts to roll into you, push your right leg, which is on the right knee, out from your body for base

184
Q

Step 10

A

Now to roll him over, push that pinned left arm north above body, roll him over to hit speed bump, and then cross over his body with your right leg, posting it on ground at 90 degree angle

185
Q

Step 11

A

Now place right hand on his right tricep, with left hand maintaining control on the right wrist

186
Q

Step 12

A

reach up grab right wrist now with right hand on side. and go into handcuffing procedures explained earlier.

187
Q

When is the right time to roll them over

A

about 100 seconds

188
Q

If he starts to kick with his knees

A

just angle your body more towards his head, not letting go of the hold

189
Q

T3 Handcuffing procedure| Step 1

A

Suspect is on ground, with you forcing his right arm in lower back and your about to cuff him.

190
Q

Step 2

A

Go around suspects body, with you now facing his feet, but in front of his head. Place right knee into Verasic Vertabrae or T3

191
Q

Step 3

A

Bring suspects right arm up, placing both of your knees now on his back, wedging his right arm between your legs

192
Q

Step 4

A

Keep knee off of suspects neck. If you lean up, as in pushing your pelvous out and becoming taller, while he is getting squirmy, it puts tremendous pressure on his shoulder.

193
Q

Step 5

A

Another option is to keep on T3, while your left knee is on ground.

194
Q

Step 6

A

Now reach around their arm, with your left arm, with contact being made above the elbow. Now reach across that arm and grab unto your thigh

195
Q

Step 7

A

If their hand is closed and you need it open, pry the arm north with right hand, which will put pressure on the shoulder and the hand will open. Also used to get the arm behind the back.

196
Q

Step 8

A

Glue their hand to your chest with your right hand, bending back their index and middle finger, with their palm to the sky. Now with your left hand, cuff that hand. and bring it down and cuff the other one.

197
Q

Remember

A

Too much pressure might cause them to fight,. because they think you might break something. Thats fight or flight. So build up to that, to gain compliance. Also you can get to the pain compliance and back off, to let them know what awaits

198
Q

Now back to the elbow that acts as a roadblock. What do you do if they refuse to roll over

A

What you need to do is go for a kimura lock.

199
Q

Kimura Handcuffing Procedure| Step 1

A

With them on side, your right hand on their right tricep, and your left hand holding their right hand. Your left knee is on the ground to the left side of their body, with your leg posted at a 90 degree angle on their right side.

200
Q

Step 2

A

Now with your left hand, push their right hand towards their head, freeing up space on their right side, underneath their arm, to slip your right hand underneath their armpit, while at the same time grabbing a hold of your left wrist with your right hand, forming a Kamora hold, double monkey grips

201
Q

Step 3

A

Now considering he was putting up resistance, hold the kimura and lay on him until he know he is compliant or until back up arrives

202
Q

Step 4

A

When your ready, get up from the mount while maintaining the kimuraGet off of his side, while moving to the left of his body, placing your right knee on his side and post your left leg on the floor at the 90 degree angle north of his head.

203
Q

Step 5

A

Now remove your arms from around his neck while maintaining the kimura.

204
Q

Step 6

A

Lift his arm up above his body at a 90 degree angle. Now rotate his arm outward to the right side of his body until is faces back towards his body, while maintaining the kimura, placing his arm in his lower back.

205
Q

Step 7

A

Now go back to the T3 hold, with one knee on the T3, and the other on the ground. Positioning the arm between your right thigh and your left arm, which reaches over and grabs your right thigh. Before trapping it between your arm and leg, let go of the kimura and hug his arm bringing up against your chest.
