GPC Flashcards
Micrococcus Disk ID
Bacitracin S
Furazoladone R
Lysostaphin R
Modified oxidase +*
* Can get a false reaction due to waxy nature. Do not perform unless colony appears like staph
Staphylococcus DIsk ID
Bacitracin: R
Furazoladone: S
Lysostaphin: S
Mod Oxidase: Neg
Rothia
GPC that looks like staph. Nicknamed sticky staph. Encapsulated.
Weak or neg catalase.
ID of GBS
Carb of B antigen
CAMP +
Na Hippurate hydrolysis: pos is a purple color
ID for GDS
BE and 6.5% Salt.
BE is pos for both Enterococcus and Viridians enterococcus
6.5% Salt is pos only for Enterococcus*
* Aerococcus also grows in 6.5% Salt but is NE negative.
GDS common isolates
S. bovis group: Streptococcus gallolyticus, S. bovis, S. equinus, S. infantarius, S. alactolyticus
GDS identification from Enterococci
PYR neg while Enterococci are PYR pos
6.5% salt neg while Enterococci are pos
GDS are susceptible to pen while Enterococci are not
VP test
Detects product of acetylmethcarbinol or acetoin from glucose metabolism. Pos reaction is a cherry red color.
ARG test
Arginine hydrolysis
purple is pos, yellow
