What is viral bronchiolitis?
Viral bronchiolitis = an acute viral infection of the lower respiratory tract.
Although it can affect individuals of any age, the term is most often used to refer to infection in infancy.
What is the most common cause of bronchiolitis?
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)
What is bronchiolitis characterised by?
- Epithelial cell destruction
- Cellular oedema
- Airway obstruction by inflammatory debris and mucus.

Under 3, mainly under 1 yeras of age
Clinical manifestations of bronciolitis
Cough (that persists for weeks, after 10-14 days of acute illness), wheeze, and laboured breathing.
Management for bronchiolitis
Most cases are mild and self-limiting, and supportive care is the only indicated therapy.
