They are appointed by the monarch on the advice of the Prime Minister.

They are appointed by the Governor General after winning the largest number of seats in the House of Commons.
What are MP’s?
MP’s elected in one of the federal ridings in a general election.
MPP’s are elected in one of the provincial ridings.
You must be at least 18 year old and a Canadian citizen,
How do you become senators?
They are appointed by the Governor General on the advice of the Prime Minister. In addition, they must be at least 30 years old, own at least $4000 worth of property and live in the province / territory they are representing.. Finally, they have to retire by the age of 75.
