Freedom of religion, press, speech, and to peacefully assemble.
Limitations- child pornography, cannot threaten to kill the president and cannot endanger others.
Important terms- Libel and slander
1st Amendment
The right to bear arms
Limitations- Does not apply to anyone with a criminal record. In order to purchase a gun, you must have a federal background check
2nd Amendment
Soldiers must have permission to stay in one’s home, you cannot be forced to house a soldier
3rd Amendment
Protections against irrational search and seizures
Exceptions- airports and borders
4th Amendment
Protects against abuse of legal authority, grand jury, double jeopardy, self-incrimination, and eminent domain
5th Amendment
The right of a “Speedy and public trial”, right to an impartial jury
6th Amendment
Right of a trial by jury (in general)
7th Amendment
No cruel and unusual punishment, no excessive bail
8th Amendment
States that there are certain basic human rights that are not included in the constitution but citizens of America still have them
9th Amendment
If a power is not given to the federal government, the state government assumes that power
10th Amendment
Sovereign immunity (card not done)
11th Amendment
The President and Vice President will be voted for separately
12th Amendment
States that slavery is abolished
13th Amendment
Section 1: Anyone born in the U.S. is naturally a citizen
Section 2: Eliminates the 3/5th’s compromise
Section 3: Anyone who has committed treason cannot run for political office
Section 4: States and Federal government are not responsible for paying debts for those rebelling
Section 5: Congress will enforce this amendment
14th Amendment
A citizen’s right to vote cannot be denied because of their race
15th Amendment
