Gordan Ryan Half gaud attacking Flashcards
When to use butterfly
When you want more versatility in attacking and better defense
When to use low knee shield
When person is stalling, you can pull them in
When to use high knee shield
When person starts to try to smash your low knee shield
What if Opp grabs your head
- Touch your bottom eyebrow with your bottom hand
- Expand your elbow and Circle your head outside of their forarm.
- this will also give you a inside tie on their bicep which you can use to push their arm away.
effective framing
a) cross shoulder is king
b) with high knee shield of butterfly 1/2, aim for a knee elow connection, to prevent them from getting their forearm inside your hips
Why is it important to monitor which side of the body your partners head is on?
Because that is the direction your attack will go,
for example if their head is over your top shoulder, it makes it easier to elevate them.
- you can off balance them using your legs and top frame, to get there head where you want it to be
How to effectively pummel an underhook
- you need to get your opponenets head over towards your inside, If you shoot for an underhook, and their head is over your top shoulder, with their weight on top of you, your cross face is useless.
- assuming they are coming into you, and you have butterfly half, push your top knee into their hip and lift your hook, while at the same time, push agaist their near shoulder with your elbow.
- Once their right knee is elvated, aim to get a knee elbow connection then shoot for the underhook,
- Put your forehaead on their head, trapping their right arm
If opp posts while you are attempting the sweep
- Take your underhooking left arm and v grip under their armpit
2.Lift (using the v grip and butterfly hook) over your right shoulder so they need to base on two hands - cut and angle so that your right knee goes to the opp near hip + grab their right leg with your left hand to stop them from backstepping.
- use a lat grip with your right hand to push against them creating an angle
- go into ashi.
4.
Basic sweep
- From a good underhook
- Build up to your elbow, by sliding your elbow out beyond your shoulder line.
- keep your forehead against their temple to prevent them getting a reverse cross face.
- lift your right hand of the mat, and be ready to catch their left arm as they pressure in for an underhook
- pull their left arm in towards you. and push their head to the floor with your head,
- put the ball of your right foot on the floor and do a butterfly sweep.
From attacking the near leg, if oppp usehs their head back acroos your centre line
- Put your right arm under their armpit, and your right knee in their but and redirect them further over to your left side
- ashi on their left leg
When and how to enter scoop grip
If you’ve got the underhook, but you can’t get your opponent’s left arm to sweep or off balance-
1. Shoot your right arm under their legs and hug their thigh.
2. your underhooking arm moves to a low underhook, around the waste
3. tuck your head right into their hips to prevent them from flattening with a cross face or reverse cross face.
attacking from the scoop grip
- extend out with your legs
- as opp pushes back into you, roll to your left hip and bring your hip to your knees.
- post on their lat or tricep with your left hand, use your right hand to extend their left leg,
- got into ashi or x gaurd.
If the scoop doesn’t work out
- pummel your under hook to a cross lat on their left side.
- put your left knee on their hip and semi invert, they should need to post behind themselves.
- if they push into you, invert to a cross ahsi.
- If they stay there ,roll over to a sweep.
