Goodwin's interactive story model Flashcards
What did his model suggest?
Storytelling is an interactive form and speakers rely on techniques to build their narrative
Story preface:
Signal that the speaker wants to tell a story and an invitation for others to show interest
Story solicit:
Response from someone that they want to listen to the story (can be non-verbal)
Preliminary to the story:
Background information/context (who, what, where, when, why)
Story action:
The main narrative
Story climax:
The conclusion
Story appreciation:
Signals, both verbal and non-verbal cues, that communicate the response of the audience to the narrative. This may take place at several points throughout the story i.e questions, agreement/exclamatives, minor clauses, laughter or other emotional cues
