a pulmonary-renal syndrome
primary immune complex-mediated vasculitis

Aetiology
A
antibodies to type IV collagens after some viral infections

Pathophysiology
A
Acute glomerulonephritis + lung symptoms caused by antiglomerular basement membrane antibodies

Diagnostic tests
A
CXR: infiltrates due to pulm haemorrhage, often in lower zones
Kidney biopsy: crescentic glomerulonephritis

Tx
A
Treat shock, vigorous immunosuppressive Tx and plasmapheresis

What is plasmapheresis?
A
Process in which the liquid in the blood, or plasma, is separated from the cells.
It removes circulating anti-GBM antibodies
