Good Design Practices Flashcards
1
Q
What5 things should you consider when casting
A
- Consider material flow and mould strength
- Avoid concentrations of mass – residual stresses
- Avoid distortion and shrinkage cavities/porosity – i.e. defects
- Allow for removal of pattern
- Avoid cores or use simple cores
2
Q
What 2 things should you consider when Joining
A
- Moving away from stress raisers will improve strength
* Consider thermal contraction of welds which will cause distortion and defects
3
Q
What 3 things should you consider when machining
A
- Provide for holding of parts, tool access and tool recess
- Design for ease of, or reduction of, machining
- Design for ease of assembly
