goniometry Flashcards
cervical lateral flexion
regular goniometer, gravity, measuring tape
sitting in chair with back 0-45° pivot- C7 static- straight down SP moving- straight up, center of occiput gravity: place on crown of head measuring tape: mastoid process -> lat acromiom
cervical rotation
regular, gravity and measuring tape
sitting in chair with back 0-60-80° pivot- center of cranium static- in line with acromion moving- right angle, forward in line with nose gravity: lay supine, place on forehead measuring tape: chin -> acromion
cervical flexion/ extension
regular, gravity, and measuring tape
*make sure it is OA and cervical and not thoracic* sitting in chair with back 0-45-60° = flexion 0-60-75° = extension pivot- external acoustic meatus static- perpendicular to ceiling moving- in line with nose gravity: place on crown of head measuring tape: chin ->suprasternal notch
thoracolumbar lat flexion
regular, gravity, and tape
standing- maybe against something to minimize pelvic movement 0-25-35° pivot- btwn PSIS static- butt crack moving- straight up *VC keep weight even thru both feet gravity: palpate C7 measuring tape: finger tips -> floor
thoracolumbar rotation
sitting 0-35-45° pivot- center of cranium (over head) static- line with ASIS moving- line with acromiom
thoracolumbar flex/ extend
gravity, tape
sitting- watch for pelvic tilt flex= 0-60° extend = 0-20° gravity: straddle over C7-T1 tape: difference C7->S1
hip flexion
supine- if hip contractures may have to do with bent knee 0-120° pivot- greater trochanter static- mid axillary moving- lat aspect of femur
hip aBduction
supine- PT cradles leg to make sure no ex rotation or flexion, stabilize pelvis or other leg. stop when you see pelvic movement 0-45° pivot-ASIS static- line across to other ASIS moving- line of patella
hip aDduction
supine- move other leg into abduction 0-20° pivot- ASIS static- line across to other ASIS moving- line of patella
hip ER/ IR
2 possible positions
supine with hip and knee flexed at 90° PT on table supporting leg ER= 0-50° IR= 0-40° pivot- patella static- parallel to ASIS moving- crest
sitting:
pivot- patella
static- perpendicular to floor
moving- crest of tibia
hip extension
prone- PT cradle knee but don't bring into flexion 0-40° pivot- greater trochanter static- mid axillary moving- lateral aspect of femur
hindfoot - inversion/ eversion
inversion- 0-5-10
eversion 0-5
prone- hold calcaneous, hands at level of malleoli
pivot on achilles tendon at level of malleoli
static- center of calf
moving arm- line with calcaneo-tuberosity
foot inversion/ eversion
inversion- 0-30/ eversion 0-20 sitting pivot- anterior level of malleoli static- tibial crest moving- 2nd MT
knee flex/ extend
0-140 supine pivot- lat femoral condyle static- aligned with greater trochanter moving- lateral maleoli
ankle plantar flexion
plantar -0-50 dorsi- 0-10-20 prone pivot- lateral malleoli, slightly distal static - fibular head moving- parallel to 5th MT
