flexibility Flashcards
hamstrings and back extensors (sit and reach test) (2)
- person in long sitting with feet in box to measure
2. look at sacrum, make sure its tilting ant- 80-90 deg from table
hamstring- straight leg test (3)
test
things to watch for
normal
- supine and do straight legs raises
- make sure pelvis doesn’t tilt and knee stays straight
- normal is 80 degrees
thomas test
3 muscles you are testing
what you do
specific test for specific muscles
testing: illiopsosas rec fem TLF lay on back, edge of table bring both knees to chest and bring 1 down and see if leg touches table. test for rec fem- do with bent knee test for TFL- leg goes in aBduction
obers test
what you test
how you test
positive test
- testing TFL
- side ly -bend bottom knee, hold leg in adduction and hip slight extension with knee in 90 degrees and let leg lower… if it stays up its tight, or drift into flexion
- positive test = don’t come to neutral
flexibility of pec minor, biceps, and coracobrachialis
general
tests for each
hook-lying to minimize arching back, make sure shoulder blades are on table
pec minor can pull shoulders forwards, biceps also have an attachment on shoulder girdle, as does coracobrachialis
to test:
1. biceps: bend elbow (shoulders go down)
2. coracobrachialis- flex shoulder (shoulders go down)
3. pec minor- bend elbow and flex shoulder- still up its pec minor (trunk -> shoulder girdle)
flexibility of pec major- clavicular and sternal heads
hook-lying to minimize back arching
clavicular head = jesus arms, arms should ly flat on table
sternal head = bring arms to 135 deg abduction- arms should ly flat on table
flexibility of lats, teres major, rhomboids
hook lying to minimize back arching
go to terminal flexion/abduction, lateral epicondyle just about touching table
- compare sides
to get into full shoulder flexion and abduction (same position), we need what 3 muscles?
doing what?
elongate lats and teres major
upward rotation of scapula from rhomboids
gastroc flexibility
sit prone with foot over edge, do active DF with knee flexed then with knee extended
