What was the name of Stresemann’s new currency?
What did it solve?
The Rentenmark, it ended hyperinflation by burning the old currency but people never got their savings back
What was the ‘Dawes Plan’?
An agreement between Gustav and the French, British and American leaders that allowed Germany to pay what they could afford over a longer period of time.
What was the ‘Locarno Pact’?
A Treaty between Germany, Britain, France, Belgium and Italy which made them promise not to invade each other.
It was signed in 1925
What was the ‘Kellogg-Briand Pact’?
It was a pact between Germany and 64 other countries that meant they would not go to war unless in self-defence.
It was signed in 1928
What was the ‘Young Plan’?
Another agreement made in 1929 that would reduce reparations from £6.6 billion to £1.8 billion
What happened to the Nazis during 1924 to 1929?
- The Nazi Party lost support
- Hitler was considered a national joke
- People decided to support the Weimar government again as Germany was doing so well.
What changed in Weimar culture during the ‘Golden Years’?
- Women had more freedoms such as; smoking, wearing revealing clothing etc..
- A lot of parties (night life) and fast paced dancing, i.e. Tango and music like Jazz
- Society was very divided and ex-soldiers were not supported
