Or
The highlights and shadows on the glass are precise and angular, emphasising its geometric, textured pattern
G-Form
Goings records the highlights and shadows of each object with incredible precision, creating a large tonal range throughout. This makes the objects seem 3 dimensional and photorealistic
G- Subject matter
Goings has used objects that would be associated with a typical American diner, for example Hienz Ketchup and sugar holder. The addition of a pie and ice tea allows the viewer to imagine the other items the establishment may sell, allowing them to picture the environment that is unseen in the painting
G- composition
Objects arranged randomly, as you would find them in a diner. This demonstrates Going’s desire to make the composition seem un-staged and realistic, by not altering the arrangement of the objects as he has found.
G- media handling+technique
Goings had used ting paintbrushes throughout this piece, for example, in the ketchup label to create photorealistic detail. He would have taken multiple photos of the composition to paint from, projecting the image on to a canvas to create an incredibly detailed and realistic painting
G- visual impact
The natural light from the window in the painting combined with the casual setup of the objects, results in a relaxing/calming visual impact.
