Son of Cronus, King of Gods, God of skies & fate of men, Keeper of justice
Poseidon
Brother of Zeus God of seas. Important for sailors and those taking sea journeys.
Hades
ruler of the underworld. chtonic deity. Brother of Zeus.
Hera
Wife of Zeus. Goddess of women, childbirth, marriage and family. Powerful independent Goddess.
Athena
Goddess of war and wisdom. born fully grown from Zeus’ head.
Demeter
Sister of Zeus. Goddess of agriculture and harvest which was vital for the Greek society and survival
Hestia
Goddess of home and the hearth. Vital to Greek survival and every sacrifice in the home started with an offering to her
Hephaistos
God of metal working, fire and craftsmen. Either born from Hera alone or from both Zeus and Hera. Born with limp or suffered foot injury wen Zeus threw him.
Aphrodite
Goddess of love and beauty, born from the sea. her beauty won her the Golden Apple, and made her cheat with Ares and then humiliated in front of the Gods
Artemis
Goddess of hunting, wildlife and childbirth. Associated with the moon. Also referred to as Phoebe
Apollo
God of music, arts education, archery and prophecies. Associated with the sun. epithet is Phoebus. had cults centres in delphi and delos
Hermes
God of travel and trade and messenger of the gods. One of two gods that could tavelfrom underwolrd to mount olympus and consort with Hades.
Ares
God of war. Raw violence unlike Athena. God who gives men courage to stand up against hostilities to avoid a violent death.
Dionysus
God of wine and theatre. Son of Zeus and mortal Semele. Not an original Olympian. pivotal to public and private celebrations. Had own festival in Athens.
