Why is Godfrey named the Advocate of the Holy Sepulchre instead of king?
A
Refused to take title of King due to being deeply religious but effectively governed as leader until his death in 1100

What were his strengths?
A
- helped win Jerusalem by moving siege engines to weak position
- defeated the fatimids at Ascalon which secured immediate security of Jerusalem
- secured the coastline by securing tribute from ports including Acre, Arsuf and Jaffa

A
didn’t consolidate victory at Ascalon by taking the port - Fulk resorted to building castles to stabilise area
