What are organic compounds
Hydrocarbons and their derivatives are called organic compounds.
All those compounds that are derived from organisms are called organic compounds. (Primitive definition).
Who gave vital force theory?
Berzellius.
It stated that there is a mysterious force in living things due to which tehy are able to synthesise organic compounds.
First organic compound synthesized in lab was
Urea [NH2-C=O-NH2] or (NH2)2-C=O
By a scientist named ‘Wohler’.
Who synthesised
a) acetic acid
b) methane
Kolbe synthesised acetic acid.
Berthelot synthesised methane.
What is first point difference rule?
If many substituents appear at equal distances from both sides the this rule is used.
Acc. To this numbering should be done in such a way that the carbon with more no. Of substituents gets the lowest number.
Wurtz rxn is for
Alkyl halides in presence of Na, Et20,Δ
R-X ———>R-R + X-X + R-X (major)
Aryl-halides ———> dimer of aryl
In presence of Na, Δ .
This rxn is k/a
Fitting rxn. E.gs
Ph-Cl ——> Ph-Ph In presence of Na, Δ
Ulmann rxn is
Wurtz rxn but Cu in place of Na i.e
Use of Zn in place of Na in wurtz rxn is another rxn called
Frankland rxn.
Et-Cl ——> Et-Et In presence of Zn, Δ
