Supporting Families and Communities

- The EAP is building on GoC previous tax reductions (reducing GST 7 to 5 % and income tax relief).
- EAP has made EI legislative and policy changes to help the hardest-hit Canadians by extending EI benefits, fund job training and freeze EI rates.
- Protecting hardest –hit industries and those who depend on them (forestry, auto, and manufacturing) by protecting jobs and helping industries compete in a global market.
- increasing access to EI with PCIC and compassionate care benefits
- increased funding for new horizons for seniors program
- launching the Canadian employers for caregivers plan to engage with employers and maximize caregivers labour market participation

Stimulating the Economy

- Undertaking the largest infrastructure renewal program in half a century. The EAP is stimulating the economy to preserve and create jobs by speeding up investment in infrastructure (16,000 projects coast to coast are putting Canadians to work) roads, bridges, transit systems, broadband internet access, scientific and technological research and development.

Returning to a Balanced Budget

-After Phase II of EAP is complete the GoC is expecting to return to a balanced budget to protect Canada’s long-term economic prosperity via a 3-part plan:
Phasing out stimulus spending
Restraining growth in government spending (freeze on departmental operating budgets)
Promoting economic growth
- Continuing to expand Canada’s international trade and create green jobs to support our efforts to become a clean energy superpower
-reduce red-tape and regulatory burden supported by ESDC in how we manage regulatory and admin processes

Staying the Course on Long-Term Priorities

-While ensuring Canada’s successful navigation out of the economic crisis, the GoC is also committed to other longer-term priorities like rebuilding the Canadian forces, improving food and safety regulations, cracking down on gun, gang and drug crime, and asserting our sovereignty in the Arctic and strengthening Canada’s economic union.
