Goal setting behaviour
Set or agree on a goal in terms of the behaviour to be achieved (vague)
Problem solving
Analyse factors influencing behaviour and generate or select strategies that either overcome barriers and/or increase facilitators
Identify specific trigger that generates urge and development strategy for avoiding environmental cues or managing emotions
Goal setting outcome
Set or agree a goal defined in terms of a positive outcome of wanted behaviour
Action planning
Prompt detailed planning of behaviour (context, frequency, duration and intensity). Context may be environmental or internal (implementation intentions)
Review behaviour goals
Review behaviour goal jointly with person and consider modifying goals or behaviour change strategy based on achievement.
Discrepancy between current behaviour and goal
Draw attention to discepancies between the person’s current behaviours and previously set goals
Review outcome goals
Review outcome goals jointly with person and consider modifying goals in light of achievement
Behavioural contract
Create a written specification of the behaviour to be performed, agreed on by the person and witnessed by another
Commitment
Ask the person to affirm or reaffirm statements indicating commitment to change the behaviour.
