Goal Setting Flashcards
What does smart stand for?
Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Time-bound
What does it mean by specific
Knowing what your goal is and is it specific and relevant to you.
I want to be able to run 2:30s for 800m.
What does it mean by measurable?
Easy to know when your goal has been achieved, by using reps, sets, time, distances, kg’s, HR’s.
What does it mean by achievable?
If you believe something can be achieved you stay motivated, as you see results.
What does it mean by realistic?
A goal needs to be achievable in practice as well as theory. A 2:30s 800m will depend on; current performance and amount of time that can be dedicated to the training.
What does it mean by time-bound?
Does the goal have an end point? If not, then reaching it can be delayed or put off. Knowing you have six weeks until the race, you are likely to be motivated to make the improvements necessary.
