Glycolysis Flashcards
1
Q
where does glycolysis take place?
A
cytoplasm
2
Q
steps of glycolysis
A
- phosphorylating glucose
- production of triose phosphate
- oxidation of TP to produce pyruvate
3
Q
phosphorylating glucose
A
- 2ATP hydrolysed to add 2 phosphates to glucose
- energy from ATP transferred so glucose phosphate is highly reactive
4
Q
production of TP
A
- because glucose phosphate is highly reactive it splits to produce 2 x TP
5
Q
oxidation of TP to produce pyruvate
A
each TP becomes oxidised causing NAD to become NADH and 2ADP to become 2ATP
6
Q
products of glycolysis
A
2 x pyruvate
2 x ATP
2 x NADH
