17
Q

What are the roots of the sciatic nerve?

A

L4-S3

18
Q

Where does the sciatic nerve emerge?

A

Inferior to piriformis muscle

19
Q

Describe the iliotibial tract (what is it and what does it do?)

A

Fibrous reinforcement of fascia lata. Stabilises knee in extension (knee lock)

20
Q

What is piriformis syndrome?

A

Condition often seen in young, athletic adults. Piriformis muscle causes impingement or irritation of sciatic nerve causing pain, spasms, numbness and paraesthesia.
