Glucose Transport Flashcards
1
Q
Why do ORT/ORS salts include both Na and Glucose
A
Without Glucose, intestinal Na+ is not absorbed by SGLT
2
Q
How do ORS or 0.9 Saline help?
A
Saline increases blood volume, with ORS as the salts and water enter the ileum, the Na and Glucose enter the enterocytes and draw water along with them via osmosis. This means that dehydration can be treated even whilst frequent diahorrea is present.
