Q

Mechanism of action

A

Dulaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1) receptor agonist. Insulin release is stimulated in a glucose-dependent manner via activation of GLP-1 receptors on pancreatic beta cells. Glucagon secretion is also reduced and gastric emptying is delayed; thereby reducing the rate at which postprandial glucose appears in circulation. GLP-1 regulates appetite and calorie intake, including via receptors that are present in the brain. The weight reduction effect of liraglutide is due to decreased calorie intake.
