Records which are created in digital form, without a non-digital equivalent.
Born digital records
An organization that provides a flexible range of protections and freedoms for authors, artists, and educations. It is build upon a “some rights reserve” concepts vs “all rights reserve” concept.
Creative Commons
The right to ownership of the work.
Copyright
Means of converting hard-copy or non-digital records into digital format.
Digitization
A library in which a significant proportion of the resources are available in machine-readable format (as supposed to print or microform), accessible by means of computers.
Digital Library
Refers to the series of managed activities necessary to ensure continued access to digital materials for as long as necessary.
Digital Preservation
Retrospective, back-capture of existing sets of non-digital records to enhance accessibility and maximize re-use.
Digitization project
An author’s claim to his/her creative work. A copyright exists for every creation, even if it is not registered.
Intellectual Property Right
A mechanism for reducing file sizes that retains all original data.
Lossless Compression
A data about data
Metadata
Document or record that has been copied, converted or migrated or will be the input for such a process.
Non-digital source record
A digital collection of research articles that have been placed there by their authors. In the case of journals articles, this may be done either before (pre-prints) or after publication (post-prints).
OA Repositories or Archives
According to the Bethesda Statement and the Berlin Declaration, a publication that meets the following conditions:
Open Access Publication
Versions of the PDF standard intended for archival use.
PDF/A
A mission to provide reliable, long-term access to managed digital resources to its designated community, now and into the future.
