A xanthine oxidase inhibitor. Currently the drug of choice in the treatment of chronic tophaceous gout. Reduces blood uric acid levels and prevents the formation of tophi.
Allopurinol
A central acting drug to relieve spasticity. Acts within the spinal cord to suppress hyperactive reflexes involved in regulation of muscle movement.
Baclofen
Baseline labs for all DMARDs
- CBC with WBC diff
- urine pregnancy test
- ALT, AST
- TB skin test if needed
- serum creatinine
Inhibit bone resorption by decreasing the activity of osteoclasts.
Bisphosphonates
A COX-2 inhibitor indicated for the treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, acute pain, and dysmenorrhea.
Celecoxib (Celebrex)
Antiinflammatory agent specific for gout
Colchicine
A cholinesterase inhibitor used to slow the progression of cognitive and behavioral dysfunction in Alzheimer Disease.
donazepril (Aricept)
Relieve symptoms of severe RA and may also delay disease progression.
Glucocorticoids in rheumatoid Arthritis
A recombinant uric acid oxidase drug. It is an IV medications used for the treatment of chronic gout patients who have not responded to probenecid and allopurinol.
Pegloticase
A uricosuric agent used to treat gout by increasing the excretion of uric acid. It also prevents the formation of tophi.
Probenecid
A selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that exerts estrogenic effects in some tissues and antiestrogenic effects in others. It is indicated for prevention and tx of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and protection against estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer.
Raloxifene
A non-benzodiazepine hypnotic melatonin agonist used in the treatment of insomnia
Ramelteon
Side effects of SSRIs:
Sexual dysfunction, Weight gain, Serotonin syndrome
