naive realism
the human tendency to believe that we see the world around us objectively, and that people who disagree with us must be uninformed, irrational, or biased
- eg seeing is believing
reciprocal determinism - albert bandura
a persons behaviour is influenced through cognitive processes and environmental factors such as social stimuli
- the fact that people mutual influence each others behaviour
psychologist
an expert of specialist in psychology
psychoanalyst
a healthcare provider who specializes in the mental health needs of adults, and children in some cases
Psychoanalysts use psychoanalysis, an in-depth form of talk therapy, to help people overcome difficulties and make lasting changes in their lives.
psychotherapist
a person who treats mental disorders by psychological rather than medical means
hypothesis
a supposition of proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation
theory
a supposition or a systme of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained
confirmation bias
the tendency to process information by looking for, or interpreting information that is consistent with ones existing beliefs
eg ignoring red flags and only seeing what you wanna see
ad hoc immunising hypothesis
a hypothesis added to a theory in order to save it from being falsified
belief perseverance
the tendency to maintain a belief even after the information that originally gave rise to it has been refuted or otherwise shown to be inaccurate
logical fallacies (lots of sub points)
- flawed, deceptive, or false arguments that can be proven wrong and with reasoning
anecdote
an account regarded as unreliable or hearsay
patternicity
the tendency to perceive meaningful patterns and connections among unrelated events
bias blind spot
seeing the bias in other people but being unablet o see your own bias
extrasensory perception (ESP) - term adopted by Duke University Psychologist J.B.
a claimed reception of information not gained through the recognised physical senses, but sensed with the mind
