Glomerulonephritis Flashcards
Non-proliferative glomerulonephritis is damage to podocyts, what syndrome is produced?
Nephrotic syndrome
A prolifertaive process affecting endotherlal cells suggests what?
Nephritic syndrome
Renal function in nephrotic syndrome?
Usually normal.
What urinary sediment in nephritic syndrome?
RBC and granular casts.
Remission of nephrotic syndrome is what?
Proteinuria < 300mg/day = full remission
Partial remission = proteinuria < 3G/day.
What is the most common cause of nephrotis syndrome in children?
Minimal change
How do you manage minimal change nephropathy
Most go into remission with oral steroids.
Causes of minimal change nephropathy:
A child with nephrotic syndrome.
Causes = NSAIDs, Hodgkins.
What is the most common nephrotic syndrome in adults?
Focal segmental
- assoc with heroin, HIV, obesity.
What is the 2nd most common nephrotic syndrome in adults and is associsated with rheumatology all disease?
Membranous nephropathy
What is the most common GN in the world and how does it present?
IgA nephropathy.
Macroscopic haematuria after a resp/GI infection.
How does IgA nephropathy present?
1-2 DAYS after infection, common in young males.
How does post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis present?
2 WEEKS after strep A throat infection.
Commonly present in children.
PROTEINURIA
2 features that occur in post-streptococcal that don’t occur in IgA?
Post strep has low complement levels and proteinuria.
Good Pasture’s disease?
Pulmonary renal syndrome
Haemoptysis and haematuria
