♡ Geographical and economic reasons: Sahel region in Africa, landlocked with difficult geography, often in coups or civil wars due to ethnic divides, poor literacy and infrastructure, arid and harsh desert climates
♡ How has the Global Shift affected countries?
♡ More investment and FDI into emerging countries such as China and India who have a high number of workers, low wages and longer hours
♡ China has been the world’s largest recipient of FDI since 2000, and its share of global trade by value rose from 3% in 2001 to 10% in recent years.
♡ Deindustrialisation in previously industrial areas in the UK, has led to spirals of decline such as in Middlesbrough where regeneration has been abandoned
♡ Leicester, 1920s over 30,000 people worked in Leicester’s textile mills, has caused dereliction, deindustrialisation and depopulation
♡ How has the emergence of a global culture impacted countries?

♡ How have tensions rose over Globalisation?
♡ Political tensions: Rise in Right-wing groups such as Britain first due to London’s melting pot of cultures, Polish migrants
♡ Environmental tensions: Mekong River shared between Laos, Vietnam, China, Cambodia and Myanmar
China: Damming the rivier to generate electric power
Laos: 90% of population depends on Mekong for agriculture
Thailand: Wants water for industrial development
Vietnam: Mekong delta allows for fertile area of 50,000 km, which supports 40% of Vietnam’s population
♡ How can globalisation be controlled?
♡ Censorship of media where TV and radios are state-owned and state-monitored (China)
♡ Trade protectionism (to limit imports or promote exports by putting up economic barriers), L’Exception Culturelle where 40% of songs on radio must be French and restricts the imports of foreign films

♡ Melting of glaciers in the area and depletion of Grizzly Bear population
♡ 91% of people against Jumbo Valley, got discontinued
♡ Scott and Rob Niedermayer donated their time, hockey sticks and hats to the Keep Jumbo Wild campaign
♡ How have the impacts of Globalisation been reduced?
♡ Totnes, Transition Town: Recycling, locally source food from farmers nearby, have their own currency
♡ Fair Trade: Positive contributions to the environment, provider support and makes sure farmers (cocoa, etc) are paid a fair price for their work
♡ Ethical Shopping: TRAID, provide quality daycare to Bangladeshi single mothers who are textile workers working in exploitative conditions on very low wages, aims to help children and their parents into state-run schools for primary education, removal of fast fashion and sweatshop elements
♡ Circular Economy: A model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible
