globalisation and education Flashcards
how has economic globalization impacted education
economic globalization means increased competition from abroad which means British students today are expected to spend longer in education ( leaving skl at 18 rather than 26/ going to uni).
means that most of unskilled factory jobs have moved abroad - British workers need to be better educated to get jobs. thus expansion of higher education means more students are better qualified than parents
give an evaluation/ analysis of the impact of economic globalisation
poorer uk students are put off by the fees university charge means that the globalisation of higher education is causing more class inequality. education has been impacted by globalisation as schools and education systems compete on global league table (PISA). this means uk pupils need to compete globally
how has increasing migration due to globalisation affecting education
increasing migration has meant that education is more multicultural
schools now tech about the six world religions in re and there are many faith schools serving muslim and jewish students . schools haxe had to respond to increasing numbers of polish children entering primary and secondary schools. assimilation policies introduced
what is an evaluation point of increased migration due to education
uk curriculum is ethnocentric
still only values European languages and place an emphasis on instilling British values into all pupils
(functionalists argue this is the purpose of schools (social integration and shared norms ))
